How are Barcodes for Books different?
Barcodes for Books are general use barcodes not different from other products. What makes them unique is the addition of the ISBN and retail price barcode.

The standard ISBN (International Standard Book Number) barcode, which is required by traditional book sellers such as Barnes & Nobles, Borders and Amazon, must be obtained by you from ISBN.org or their U.S. reseller Bowker.com.

If you do not need a UPC code and prefer to provide an ISBN, we offer graphic creation services, which includes the supplemental barcode, for $25.

The bottom left features the standard UPC code.

The right side features the standard ISBN (International Standard Book Number) barcode.

The small 5-digit barcode next to the ISBN represents your suggested
retail price. The first digit of this price barcode indicates the currency.
The remaining 4 digits indicate the price xx.yy of your book. If you do
have a suggested price, please let us know the amount and the
currency. If you decide not to recommend a price or if your price is more than 99.99, the price barcode will read 90000.

Do I really need a Barcode on my Book?
Yes, Amazon and most major bookstores have electronic point of sale (ePOS) systems, which enable them to keep track of their sales and stocks and to reorder books by scanning the barcode.

Most retailers refuse to accept books that are not barcoded. In addition, many distributors make use of barcodes in their warehouse systems.

How do Barcodes for Books work?
In short, the UPC is a 12-digit unique code for your product represented by scannable bars.

Universal Product Codes (also known as GTIN-12) appear as lines (bars) of varying widths representing the series of numbers commonly shown below the bars.

Barcode scanners read the bars and convert them back to the 12-digit UPC number that they represent.

When you reach an agreement with a retailer to carry your product(s), they request the information required by their unique proprietary sales and inventory tracking systems.

Your 12-digit UPC number, when looked up within the retailer’s inventory system, finds the corresponding company. Each ISBN code uniquely identifies a book, and the price supplemental suggests the retail price.

This information helps the retailer keep accurate inventory data, review sales, and reorder.
